Starch is extracted from potatoes, corn, wheat, tapioca, peas and rice.
The raw materials are cleaned and then milled to separate the carbohydrates (starch), proteins, fibres, etc. Food-grade starches are used as additives in food processing, most commonly as thickeners and stabilisers in pudding, custard, soups, sauces, gravy, pie fillings, salad dressings, noodles, meat products and many other applications.
